Keiko woke up to snow. As she set the kettle on, she wondered who might come by today. Everyone would be talking about the snow. When she was a child it always snowed in the winter, but it was becoming more and more rare these days to get a substantial snowfall like she was seeing out her window.
Suddenly the telephone rang. She picked it up quickly.
“Good morning, Keiko. And happy snow day!”
Of course Gary, the Nebraskan would say that.
“Andy and I were thinking we’d like to head north to see the snow in the mountains. Where should we go?”
Keiko knew the answer immediately.
“Kifune Shrine, of course. It’s beautiful in the snow and you can take the train there from Demachi Yanagi Station.”

“Perfect,” agreed Gary. :But is it Kibune or Kifune?”
“It’s early in the morning for a linguistics lesson! But either is fine. Let’s leave it at that for now.”
She could practically hear Gary grinning on the other end of the phone.
